Four years ago when I began this journey,I had no idea where it would ultimately lead me. What a privilege it is to have been chosen for such an awesome work. I truly gave myself away so He could use me. My prayer is that this book will touch the hearts of all those who read it and will encourage their spirits to never surrender. Trials and tribulations will always be amongus, and as a result we will sometimes fall down. Thankfully, through His unconditional grace and mercy, God readily extends a hand and raises us back to our feet. Having found peace with all that has happened, I now relish all of the blessings that I have gained and no longer focus on what was lost. I must admit, that starting over can be a daunting task, but I am so grateful for the opportunity to do so!

Miracles ... not just for Christmas anymore!

Contrary to popular beliefs, there is no season for miracles. God has granted us unlimited access to His infinite storehouse of blessings and continually creates opportunities for us to receive them. In fact, He delights in bestowing miracles upon His children on a daily basis throughout all parts of the world, regardless of their conditions. And, just like the majestic butterfly, we are afforded with the unique ability to emerge from the cocoons of our old lives and be transformed into dynamic new creatures.

They are our family members, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and even strangers.

However, their stories share a common thread that links the hearts of all believers and inspires of us to keep the faith

and embrace the possibilities.

Miracle Highlights!It was estimated that Malia Renata Deleon-Marks would arrive sometime around January 16, 2011. However, at almost 25 weeks old, Malia had other plans. On October 4, 2010, her Mom, Aja, started to feel some discomfort and decided to go to the hospital's emergency to make sure her bundle of joy was okay. After several hurried and private conversations, the nursing staff thought it best to contact her immediate doctor. All the while, the on duty staff wanted to stop the advancement of her contractions. You see, to them, Malia was coming way too soon. Upon his arrival, Aja's doctor decided to not stop her contractions until he could determine Malia's actual size and her position. He wanted to factor the odds of her surviving should he allow her to be birthed naturally, he did not believe she would survive a cesarean birth.After sizing Malia up and seeing her through the ultra sound monitor, to everyone’s surprise, baby Malia was already in birth position! Her head was pressed tightly against her mother’s cervix as if to say, “Let me out of here!”Malia’s grandmother was standing next to the doctor as her father Dante comforted her mother. Grandmother asked the doctor, “What are you thinking?” He replied, “I’m thinking, because of her position, her behavior is telling me she needs to get out because something is wrong. I have to let her come naturally.”By this time, her mother had dilated 10 centimeters and was being prepped for delivery, and the neonatal intensive care unit staff prepared for the arrival of little Malia. One of the neonatal doctor’s was not convinced the right decision had been made. Surely at this point, it was indeed in God’s hands. Not quite 25 weeks old, Malia realized her environment had become unsafe. Her mother had developed an infection and she was growing in a cesspool of polluted water. If she had to die trying, Malia was determined to get to safety!Well, as stated before, the date was October 4th (10/4) and at 10:04 pm Malia Renata DeLeon Marks was born weighing 1 lb 7 oz, 12” long!The family is happy to report that as of Dec 10, 2010 Malia weighs 4 lb 5.7 oz, and is 16” long. She continues to defy the odds and every day the medical staff says her survival is nothing short of a Miracle! It is believed she will be released in time for Christmas. What a gift to be given as Christians prepare to celebrate the ultimate Gift given to the world over 2,000 years ago!What the family has learned from the newest addition is that God has given each of us the innate ability to choose life. He has also given us the ability to reason within our own minds. We have the power in ourselves to get in proper position so that He can birth us into our rightful places in life! An update as of 11/11/11 ... Malia turned one on October 4, 2011 weighing a whopping 16 lbs! We're told she's a bit on the petite size but otherwise she is healthy and thriving. She has not required any special medical attention and seems to be unscathed by her plight to survive. We're grateful to the Lord for allowing us to witness His hand on her young life every single day!
The Miracle of Edwina Wilson ...I am a twenty-seven year breast cancer survivor. I discovered a small lump in my breast the night before my husband was to leave on a six-month overseas deployment. Not knowing if the lump was cancerous or not, I decided against telling my husband. So, I made an appointment at the breast clinic to get checked, however, the lump was so small that the doctors had difficulty finding it. After an x-ray confirmation of its location, they monitored me for the next several months. During that time, I kept reflecting on the fact that I was a mother of four children, worked full-time and was very active in my church. My family was my world, and I wanted to be healed.The day arrived for my husband to return from his deployment. Telling him that my biopsy was the next day was even harder than telling him that I had found a lump. We went to the hospital the next morning. The diagnosis: breast cancer. My husband was devastated, but we held on to our faith because we truly believed then and now that God never gives us more than we can bear. With that in my mind, we bravely moved on to the next step in the process. The following week, I had surgery because after two consultations, I was informed that surgery was my best option. Soon after, I was prepped for radiation therapy. The doctor warned me that my chest could become burned from the radiation, my liver would have to be monitored, my digestive system could be impacted, and my hair could thin out. Treatments lasted for five and a half weeks, Monday through Thursday with oncology visits on Fridays. I was still having some post surgery discomfort, but the pain meds were too strong, so I discontinued their use and substituted Extra Strength Tylenol instead. Meanwhile, I started home therapy to regain the strength in my arm after the removal of the cancer and surrounding lymph nodes. I am so grateful to report that I regained full strength in my right arm, my skin was not harmed during radiation therapy, my digestive system was compromised and I had to change my diet, but I was able to eat enough to keep myself nourished. And, my hair did thin a little, but overall I retained most of it. These are all blessings that I grow to appreciate more and more every time I hear the story of a sister-survivor. Twenty-seven years later, I am a mentor for survivors and an advocate for breast cancer awareness. I am a grandmother of three and adopted grandmother to countless. This year I celebrated fifty years of marriage, and I praise God for the opportunity to share my story as an example of a true miracle. And, as I continue to walk in His grace and mercy, I find incredible peace and hope in knowing that God's not done with me yet!
